Diamond 4C : Clarity

Diamond clarity is determined by professionals under a 10x magnifying glass, based on the amount of diamond content. Diamond clarity is the number of defects. The defects that affect the clarity of the diamond are generally divided into two parts, namely internal defects and surface defects. According to the visibility, type, quantity and distribution of defects, the clarity of diamonds can be divided into several grades.

CLARITY-a symbol of diamond personality!

Each diamond contains natural inclusions, just like a natural birthmark. The number, size, shape, and color of these inclusions determine the clarity and uniqueness of a diamond. It must be seen under a 10x magnifying glass.

When a gemologist examines a diamond, he uses a 10x magnifying glass and the G.I.A. “American Gemological Society” standard to identify 11 grades of diamond clarity. Starting from flawless (FL), which means that the diamond is flawless both internally and on the surface, and then to the lowest flaw level (I3), describing that the inclusions and flaws in the stone can be found by the naked eye alone.

FL, IF grade diamonds:

FL (Flawless)-Observed under a ten-fold magnifying glass, without any inclusions or gaps.

IF (Internally Flawless)—observed under ten times magnifying glass, no inclusions, only small gaps.

  VVS1, VVS2 diamonds:

VVS1 (Very Very Small Inclusions)—Diamonds have very small inclusions, which are extremely difficult to observe under ten times magnifying glass.

VVS2 (Very Very Small Inclusions)—Diamonds have very tiny inclusions, which are difficult to observe under ten times magnifying glass.

   VS1 and VS2 diamonds:

VS1 (Very Small Inclusions)—Diamonds have small inclusions, which are difficult to observe under ten times magnifying glass.

VS2 (Very Small Inclusions)—Diamonds have small inclusions, which are easier to observe under a ten-fold magnifying glass.

   SI1, SI2 diamonds:

Diamonds have obvious inclusions, SI1 (Small Inclusions) is easy to observe under ten times magnifying glass, SI2 (Small Inclusions) is easy to observe.

I1, I2, I3 diamonds: Chinareplica does not provide these diamonds, nor does it recommend consumers to purchase such clarity grade diamonds.

FL/IF completely pure diamonds are the most popular and the most expensive. But many diamonds have some inclusions, scratches, traces of minerals or other tiny characteristics, which will reduce the purity of the diamond. The NGTC, GIA and HRD organizations use a series of more detailed rules and standards to outline the types of diamond inclusions.

Which grade of diamond clarity is better?

There are no two identical diamonds in the world, and the VS clarity grade is very rare, so the mark dedicated to this diamond is the best witness to identify this diamond. This is to maintain the accuracy and objectivity of the clarity grade. .

The better the clarity of the diamond, the higher the price. When you want to buy high-clarity diamonds for investment and collection, you choose diamonds that can see VVS/VS clarity with no visible defects. This kind of diamond has a higher value, but it is cheaper than IF and FL grade diamonds, and it does not contain obvious defects, so it will not diminish the beauty of the diamond. When you have no special requirements for the clarity of diamonds, choosing the SI grade is the most cost-effective, and you cannot distinguish between the SI grade and the VS grade with the naked eye. Moreover, flaws are also part of the diamond, a unique mark made by nature on each diamond.

   Tips for choosing diamond clarity

In the diamond market, the higher the clarity of diamonds, the more expensive the price, and the lower the clarity of diamonds, the cheaper the price.

For daily consumption, it is recommended that if you have no special requirements for diamond clarity grades, SI grades are the most cost-effective. Not only are they cheap, but you can’t analyze diamonds with diamond clarity SI and diamond clarity grade VS.

If the purpose of buying diamonds is for investment and collection, then the VS level or above, even the diamond clarity is above VVS1, should be your first choice.

If the diamond is only used for bracelets, earrings, pendants, etc., the clarity of the diamond is even less demanding, as long as it is beautiful and sparkles.

If the diamond you want to buy is first in appearance, second in clarity, and you don’t want to change your budget, you can choose a diamond with a better cut and a color grade of G or H.
